Change in Library Overdue Policy

The Law Library has not been charging overdue fines for late materials. However, this is changing effective January 29th. During both the Summer and Fall semesters, there has been a problem with patrons keeping heavy demand items well past their due dates. This has placed other patrons at a disadvantage, especially in regards to course reserve material and study aids.

Therefore, library will begin to charge overdue fines on a daily basis for regular circulating materials and an hourly basis for reserve materials. Also, when a reserve item is overdue for 2 or more days, we will bill the patron for the cost of replacement plus a $40 processing fee. This will allow us to replace the material immediately to provide access to other patrons.

Thank you for doing this. Hopefully it will be easier to check out books and study aids. It's very frustrating to go to the library repeatedly looking for something only to find out it's still checked out by the same person.
