Spring Break Suggested Reading
I know, you have done nothing but read all trimester and you are going to have to do it again for the Spring term. How about spending time reading for pleasure? Don't want to read a romance novel. How about reading a banned book.
Did you know 46 of Radcliffe Publishing Course Top 100 Novels of the 20th Century have been the subject of an attempted ban. Be controversial, read one of them or check out a film based on the controversial literature like Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men or Grapes of Wrath, JD Salinger's Cather in the Rye or Alice Walker's Color Purple.
The American Library Association Office of Intellectual Freedom compiles list of the most frequently banned books in the U.S. by category, decade and year. Categories include age group (children's or young adult); topics and format. Go to ALA list of most frequently challenged book list pick a title, check it out from a local library and settle down to for a good read.
